Top Ten Tuesday #3

Top Ten Bookish Goals For 2013

  1. To read more hyped books – This past year or two I purposely stayed away from a lot of popular books such as Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Fever series, Stormdancer, Lumatere Chronicles, John Green books and many more. It’s not that I don’t want to read them. It’s the hype that bothers me because I’ve been burned before when it comes to well-known novels.  I will try and read if not all then most of them.
  2. To read all the books sitting on my shelf –I can’t stop myself from buying new books. But that is not the biggest problem. When I get them, I don’t actually read them so they just stay there, waiting and sitting on my shelves.
  3. To finish my goodreads reading challenge with over 200 books - I originally set it at 150 books read in 2013 but I can feel it in my bones I'll read much, much more.
  4. To read more adult urban fantasy - Now, I love urban fantasy. Since I got tired of YA paranormal romance titles I switched my attention towards adult UF and never looked back. Since I got older my taste evolved and those silly teenage dramas don't do it for me, at least when it comes to mysterious, supernatural events.
  5. To read more NetGalley books once I get approved - I am a little bit ashamed to admit I almost never read NG books after getting approved. And if I am completely honest, this is the toughest bookish goal I picked. Hope I'll read at least 5-10 galleys. .

  1. I'll try to be more open-minded when it comes to books: I have tried many genres but lately I seem to be limited to just the contemporary and fantasy genre. So this year, I hope to keep an open mind and venture out and try newer things!
  2. To not judge a book by it's cover: I've fallen to prey to so many pretty books. But that's just it..they just LOOK pretty. And so many of them are just plain looking with ordinary covers but are actually bubbles of total awesomeness.
  3. I will try to finish my goodreads reading challenge of 150 books: I failed horribly in doing so last year and this year I'm determined to complete it.
  4. I will try to review each and every book I read: It's really difficult for me to review each and every book and I tend to fall behind many times! So this time , I'll try my best and review each one. And if not all, atleast the ones that deserve recognition and ones you need to steer clear from.
  5. To be considerate and actually 'read' my books rather than just collecting them: Well , I have to agree with Zemira in this case. I order so many books senselessly and spend so much and in the end , all my books do is collect dust. Not going to ignore my kindle reads and paperbacks anymore.

  1. Zemira, book goal #2 is definitely one of my book goals as well! I tend to purchase many books, but they always end up sitting on my shelves and collecting piles of dust.. Oh and by the way, despite the hype, the Fever series is SUPERB, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone is beautifully written. :)

Devyani, I agree with most of your bookish goals and strive to achieve them too, especially two and five. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I'm a cover whore. And a book hoarder. ;)

    Great post, ladies!

  2. I know they are good. They were just on the tip of my tongue. I will read them this year. Just need to get Days of Blood and Starlight and the Fever series. I have them all on my ereader but I made some space on my shelf especially for them. DoB&S is already in my basket on TBD as a reminder to order it soon.

  3. The one about collecting books! I do that!

I'm sort of angry at myself for not being able to resist buying some new books when I have so many waiting for me to get around on my shelves.

Great list and good luck to you both in keeping your bookish resolutions :)

  5. I have all of Zemira's, except for #4, and all of Devyani's except for #1! I especially love #2 of Devyani's since I make book covers from time to time on Wattpad, and that's the first thing we see when we pick up a book. Happy reading, and good luck! :)

  6. I think lowering our TBR piles are on most of the TTT's! It's also on mine! I buy so many books and they just sit there collecting dust! Good luck to you reaching your goals!

  7. Good luck to you all as well! :)

@Leanne and Divergent Gryffindor , I have to say...I still can't resist those covers. Just recently I saw the cover of All I Need by Susane Colasanti and I almost died. It's not the best cover but it still makes me swoony and I've really had nothing but disappointment from Colasanti's work , yet I'm sure that I'll be waiting to get my hands on my copy. *facepalm*

@Helene and whyanot..so we agree that we are complete shopaholics when it comes to books ;)

Tanja , sweety thank you! :)
And good luck to you too!

    Happy reading! :)
