Top Ten Tuesday #1

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by those beautiful ladies @ The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books I Read In 2012
-in no particular order-

We both picked

The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis-
Zemira-Sweet mother of God... I am still speechless when it comes to The Storyteller.  I don't think I cried this much after reading Forbidden.  I  just can't express all of my feeling towards this book. I  only read it once. I just don't have the strenght to pick it up again because I know it will destroy me  even  though I know what happens.
Devyani-  Here's what you do to kill yourself and then cry about it or maybe just puncture your heart and soul...read this book.

The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher-
Zemira and Devyani For the both of us , this book was close to perfect and we loved every bit of it!  Man,oh,man. This book blew our minds and what we love about it(everything) is that it came out of the blue. After reading it we was one of those crazy possible stalker fans and we persuaded(read made) almost all of my friends read it. Can't wait for the sequel, Dirty Red.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo-
Zemira and DevyaniAlmost everybody loved it!!  Z- Do I even need to explain myself for loving this book? 2012 was a great year for the return of fantasy genre. I was never truly a fan of fantasy but after reading S&B I changed my mind

Zemira's picks
Night  Beach by  Kirsty Eagar- So,I didn't really enjoy  Raw Blue by Kirsty but the synopsis of Night Beach was so mysterious  I  had to give the author another try and it was so spooky. It was a cross between psychological thriller and horror. What's not to like?

How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo- Tiffanie! Tiffanie! Why you no write more books? *shakes fist* I mean, this lady writes the most realistic characters in the adult romance genre. Plus it has Paul and rock'n'roll. You can even learn a thing or two about the industry reading this book.

Falling Under by Danielle Younge-Ullman- Another great adult novel. What I love about this book is that it's not afraid to feel pain and it brings you with it on a journey where you can't help but root for the main character and hope things will work out. Really, really good writing.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson- I wanted to read this book the moment I read the title. But, you know, hardbacks are  really pricey so I waited and waited till one day I found it for $6 on Fishpond!  My gut was right and this book was magical and melancholic. And the writing is spectacular. I was so touched I cried like a baby in the end.

Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick- After finishing this book I felt like someone suddenly slapped me in the face. There were so many twists and turns I had no time to think about it. Since I was listening to audiobook it was even more realistic because the main character is telling this story through a dictaphone.

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay-  Since I didn't like Pushing the Limits like the rest of the  Goodreads population I felt kind of cheated I didn't get  what I was looking for. But after a couple of months I found it in this magnificent  book. I love it so much.

Devyani's picks
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman- This was my first novel which had dragons in it and I have to say....It blew me away! It was such a perfect start to a (let's hope) perfect series. All those secrets. THAT chemistry. THOSE DRAGONS SCALES.Can't wait to read the next one!

Iced by Karen Marie Moning- To say that this was one of my best reads is an understatement.

My anticipation for this one here knew no bounds. Barrons and Mac had together or maybe JUST Barrons totally swept me off my feet with the fever series and Dani was one particular character who I always liked. So imagine a trilogy from the POV of a fourteen year old F1-racing-heart-breaking-badass-monster-killer-super-flash-justice-league girl who is so naive yet totally kickass.

Oh yes your Barrons counterpart is Ryodan. And his whole character scares the shit out of me..in many ways.

Adorkable by Sarra Manning- Somehow when I start to think about my favourite reads of 2012 , this book always slips up out of nowhere. It's about this eccentric girl who is a teenage version of Lady Gaga and is a total realist , a total badass and loves HARIBO!! (And I LOVE HARIBO.)Now Imagine this girl who intimidates the hell out of everybody fall for a guy who is a total school heartthrob and a perfectionist and is half-asian. Yeah , seems cliche but behold my friends this book will blow you away.
Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta- Because everybody deserves a happy ending. Everybody loves Marchetta and you're crazy if you didn't.

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini TaylorIt's monstrous.

So much different , edgier , gorier , scarier , blow you away-ier , kill you slowly-ier , tension maker and yes, amazinger than THE DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONES.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein- This book really did me in. It's not easy to get into this book initially because it's kind of boring. But patience and VOILA! You have yourselves a beauty! A book about bestfriends , love , survival , hope and tears. Should be given a try atleast.

In case you haven't noticed,we cheated a little. Give us a break. There are two of us!

    1. I need to read all of Devyani's picks. I usually end up skipping hyped titles and stick with the underdogs.

  6. Wow, such a great list ladies! I wasn't much of a fantasy fan either until S&B made me reconsider, ha. Drowning Instinct was utterly captivating and edge-of-your-seat-tension, while Tiger Lily was so very beautiful! I wiped away a few tears after I finished. :) I NEED to read Adorkable and The Sea of Tranquility - I've heard brilliant things about both. :)

Overall, a fantastic year of extraordinary books for sure...
